For Adults
“All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that
any of his possesions was his own, but they shared everything they had.
With great power the apostles continued to testify to the
resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all.”Acts:4 32-33
The Adult Ministry at Christ Community Church supports both married and single adults in our community. It is comprised of SOUL
(Studies on Uncompromised Living) – some people call it “sunday school” , Men’s Ministry and Women’s Ministry. Through activities that meet the spiritual, social and community needs of our members and friends, our men and women are provided with opportunities to serve one another, build friendships, study, form accountability and have fun.
We love the picture of the first Christians in the Book of Acts living in true community and hope to have our Adult Ministries mirror this. We do not call our gifts our own, but bring them to the church body, whether that be through leading a ministry, teaching a SOUL class or sharing your musical talent at a breakfast or retreat. This is giving witness to our Lord Jesus, the real purpose of our community. This is an amazing privilege!
Studies On Uncompromised Living (SOUL)
SOUL is CCC’s adult continuing education ministry. The Apostle Paul wrote “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) Paul wrote this to his young apprentice Timothy so that he (and we) would know how to walk with God in the company of the faithful and in the midst of the world. The Bible helps us with all three: to grow in our personal relationship with God; to fulfill our purpose as a vital member of the body of Christ—the Church; and to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to a suffering world.
SOUL is one means by which people at CCC can dive deeper into God’s Word. SOUL is a slate of classes taught or facilitated by CCC members, held every Sunday morning in the hour before the Worship service. SOUL classes are of three types—Knowledge, Skill, and Character. Knowledge-oriented classes focus on getting to understand the Bible itself. They have as their subject a book of the Bible, or some aspect of theology derived from relevant text throughout the pages of Scripture. Examples of past or future knowledge-oriented classes include: the Gospel of Matthew, Reading Isaiah, Ephesians, Read The Bible [in Chronological Order], the Theology of the Cross, Church History, and Apologetics. Skill-oriented classes are aimed at training us to better do the work of the ministry. Examples include: Evangelism, Raising Great Kids, and CROWN Ministries’ Christian Financial Concepts. Character-oriented classes help us to grow in Christlikeness and exhibit the fruits of the Spirit. Examples include: Tongue in Check, Spiritual Disciplines, Prayer and Walking in Grace.
Some SOUL classes employ books or videos of great Christian teachers beyond our local fellowship, such as RC Sproul. Some, especially in the Summer quarter, are a bit…uh…”innovative”, like ‘Lessons from the Lord of the Rings’. All are deeply rooted in Scripture, even if they use some other work as study guide or as conversation starter. In all SOUL classes, we strive for the best mix of reading from the Scriptures, lecture, and discussion—with a bit of laughter rising naturally.
We encourage everyone, first time visitors and long-time members, just-born Christians and seasoned saints, to join in the adventure. The fun part of learning is learning together, and learning from one another as God works in each of us. The Apostle John said “these things I have written to you that your joy may be full.” (I John 1:4) Come join us, and let’s enjoy His Word together!
For the winter quarter 2012-2013, Todd Rivetti will be teaching a class on Galatians.
As men, we have expectations to live up to. Society and tradition may tell us that we have to “bring home the bacon” or “be strong, you can’t show your emotions.” These expectations can be hard.
The bible lays out some expectations for men as well. Matthew 22 tells all christians to “Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.” It goes on to say “Love your neighbor as yourself.” In Titus 2, Paul tells us to be a Godly example and to “teach what is in accord with sound doctrine”. As husbands, the bible tells us “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her…”. And as fathers, we are commanded to “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it.”
As evidenced by the Scriptures, we, as men, have many roles. And in those roles, we have certain biblical responsibilities. Friend, husband, father, and worshipper of the Living God. Join us as we learn about these responsibilities and live out these roles through bible study, over breakfast, on the softball field, and in a variety of fun activities.
At Christ Community Church we have lots of avenues for women to get involved, grow, and get to know one another.
Spring and Fall Service Projects
In the past we have filled shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, put together care packages for underpriveliged children in Loudoun County, and brought meals to families in crisis.
Morning Bible Study
Meets Thursday mornings and childcare is provided. Please contact us for more information.
Former studies have included “Breaking Free” by Beth Moore, “Intimacy with God” by Cynthia Heald, and “Great Prayers of the Bible” by Ralph Wilson.
The Mission of the women’s ministry at CCC is that every woman will grow in intimacy with Christ and with one another, building one another up in prayer and encouraging one another in ministry.
