Our Pastor - Jeff Good
The
term that I feel most comfortable with in describing my
responsibilities is "pastor". A pastor is a shepherd who is called by
God to help keep the people in a church attentive to God. I enjoy this
quote, "the biblical fact is that there are no successful churches.
There are, instead, communities of sinners, gathered before God week
after week in towns and villages all over the world. The Holy Spirit
gathers them and does his work in them. In these communities of
sinners, one of the sinners is called pastor and given a designated
responsibility… to keep the community attentive to God."(Eugene
Peterson)
I am also called by God to take the lead in setting the course for the church, develop leaders, help others get plugged into places of service, and see that no dangerous teaching is tolerated.
I
was born in the great state of Indiana. My parents moved to Arlington
VA in my 2nd year of life where I went to through 3rd grade. It was
during this time in my life that I realized I had broken God's
standards and that I needed a savior. I asked Jesus Christ to be my
savior when I was 9 years old.
We moved to Falls Church VA in my
4th grade year and finished high school there as well. My parents are
Amos and Jo Good and I have an older brother and a younger sister. I
was married to Cindy in 1983 and these years of marriage have been a
great blessing from God. In 1993 God blessed us with a wonderful
daughter named Charis and in 2002, God walked us through an amazing
adoption process with our second daughter, Anna.
I attended
Huntington college in Indiana and graduated with a degree in Christian
Education in 1979. I completed a Master of Divinity degree from Capitol
Bible Seminary in 1989. I enjoyed 13 years of student ministry as a
staff member at Cherrydale before becoming the pastor of Christ
Community Church in 1995.
Sports and music have been two of my
biggest hobbies. Baseball being my first love of sports. Golf has now
taken it's place as a close second. Running has become a regular
pastime with completing the Marine Corp Marathon in 1989 a personal
triumph.
I love my God, I love my family, and I love being a
pastor who walks with people as God shows up in our lives. I can't
think of anything else that I would rather be doing. |
