Youth Leave for Impact The Valley
The youth left yesterday for six days at Impact The Valley. This is the second year the youth group has participated in the event.
“Impact the Valley is a local, Christian mission that brings youth and adult volunteers together for 5 days of service to poor people in the northern Shenandoah Valley. Each day volunteers repair homes belonging to elderly, disabled and other poor people. In the evenings they share meals, worship together and enjoy recreational activities.” (Teens Opposing Poverty Website)
Christ Community’s relationship with Teens Opposing Poverty (TOP) began last summer when Tobi Rouse and Jeff Good had an opportunity to meet with TOP’s Director, Steve Jennings, over lunch. TOP’s mission seemed a perfect fit for Tobi’s and the church’s vision for outreach. Impact The Valley 2009 was the first opportunity to join in on a project with TOP.
The partnership between TOP and Christ Community has grown and since last summer, the youth have traveled to downtown Washington, DC twice to serve homeless men and women. The monthly Men’s Breakfast group also conducted a trip to DC.
This year’s trip to Impact will undoubtedly prove to be another great time for fellowship, service and growth. The group will be split between three job sites this year, including one requiring heavy demolition, an exciting prospect for some of the older guys. During the evenings, the group will meet for a time of sharing and worship. The week will close with a special worship time when all the participants will have an opportunity to share what God has done at their work sites and in their lives this week.
Be praying for our youth and leaders. Pray for safety as they work and direction as they interact with those they are serving. Below is a list of our team so you can pray for them individually as well.
Check back for updates throughout the week.
